Best Paper Trading Platforms in the US (2026)

US traders have more broker demo accounts to choose from than anyone else, and 2026 brought a big change: FINRA replaced the pattern day trader rule. At the same time, most offshore crypto futures exchanges still don’t serve US residents. This guide covers the platforms and what to practise.

Réponse rapide

Most large US brokers include a free paper trading account, so if you have picked a broker, practise there. If you haven’t, or you want crypto, forex and US stocks in one place with a journal and replay, a free standalone simulator is the faster start.

The pattern day trader rule has been replaced

For over 20 years, a US margin account that made four or more day trades in five business days needed at least $25,000 in equity. The SEC approved FINRA’s replacement in April 2026. The new intraday margin rules took effect on 4 June 2026, and brokers have until 20 October 2027 to switch over, so your broker may still be counting day trades.

For practice, the practical change is that small accounts can now day trade where their broker has adopted the new rules. That makes it more important to practise intraday risk control first, because the old rule was, in effect, a brake on overtrading.

Crypto for US residents

Most large offshore crypto exchanges, including Binance.com and Bybit, do not serve US residents. US traders use US-registered platforms, and regulated crypto futures trade on CFTC-regulated venues such as CME and Coinbase Derivatives.

You can still practise crypto on a simulator using live prices. Our order flow tools read Binance Futures data. Bitcoin and Ethereum order flow there is a useful read on the wider market, but you would trade a US product live.

Practise inside regular market hours

The regular US session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Pre-market and after-hours sessions have thinner liquidity and wider spreads, which most paper trading platforms don’t reproduce well, so keep your practice to regular hours until you are consistent.

Questions fréquentes

FINRA replaced it with intraday margin rules that took effect on 4 June 2026. Brokers have until 20 October 2027 to implement the change, so ask yours whether it still counts day trades.

Which US broker has the best paper trading?+

thinkorswim paperMoney is the most complete for stocks, options and futures. Webull is simpler on a phone. Interactive Brokers covers the most markets. All are best once you have chosen that broker.

Can I paper trade crypto in the US?+

Yes. Any simulator with live prices works. To trade live, you would use a US-registered exchange or a CFTC-regulated futures venue, not an offshore exchange.
